ABC Kids TV show Bluey has been hugely successful over the last year, thanks to its distinctly Brisbane setting and relatability to parents and kids alike.
Aside from being a lot of fun, Bluey also offers much for us to learn from. The show follows a family of blue heeler cattle dogs who live ordinary, suburban lives. Bluey, her sister and their parents spend most of their time engaged in imaginative play.
Bluey reminds us of the importance of unstructured, free playtime in our kids’ lives. Playtime is very important for childhood development as it builds mental and emotional skills.
Bluey enjoys spending time exploring the creek and natural areas around her home.
In this time of lockdowns and restrictions, getting out for fresh air and exploring nature is the perfect way to help your kids relax.
Bluey’s parents are often dragged into her games. They struggle with having enough energy and getting work done, but remind us how important it is to spend time with our kids.
We can all use a reminder to forget the distractions and schedules of our busy lives, and live in the moment a bit more.
Sometimes, Bluey and her sister run out of things to do, and get bored. However, this always leads to more imagination. Letting our kids get bored is the best way to stimulate their creativity and imagination.
Another great element of the show Bluey is it’s distinctly Brisbane setting. Bluey and her family ride on Citycats, and enjoy the purple jacaranda flowers. This helps to remind us to teach our kids to appreciate the area where they live and to enjoy what it has to offer.
Bluey is a lot of fun for the whole family, and we can’t wait for the next episode to continue following the adorable family on their adventures!
